About the CPRM

The Citizens for the Preservation of Rural Murrysville (CPRM) was started by long time Murrysville resident Ray Meehan back in April of 2006. Mr. Meehan became very concerned when the site of the Buncher Property was purchased by the local Manor Development and requested this larger residentially zoned are be re-zoned to commercial. Over the past several years the face of the Murrysville Council changed rapidly taking our residential community into a new commercial direction while most of us were unaware as to what was happening. However, thanks to residents like Ray Meehan we have woken up.

The CPRM is composed of concerned Murrysville residents of all ages, which are business owners in the community, professionals, and retired individuals. This group of individuals donate their time and money in order to keep the community informed of items that will greatly change our standard of living within the community. If you would like to become involved please feel free to contact us.

The CPRM is devoted to keeping the residents of Murrysville, PA informed about the General Business Overlay District (GBOD) ordinance and it's potential impact on our community -- in both our quality of living as well as our town's economic future. We feel in general that the Murrysville Municipality and Council has done a poor job of informing the public of the true impact the GBOD will have on our community. The intent of this website is to present the facts and inform the municipality and council of the residents position. Many residents are frustrated and feel powerless in regards to the decisions being made by the Murrysville Council. Again, the majority of the Murrysville residents do not want a Monroeville-type business district in Murrysville, and we feel we have not been heard properly. Please consider getting involved as we work towards reclaiming our local government in the up and coming 2009 elections.

The CPRM is not against commercial development in our community and we understand the need for a diverse tax base. However, we are against the GBOD and the manner in which it was created. The GBOD as it stands now will allow big-box retailers such as the proposed Target & Lows complex among other big-box retailers by allowing residentially zoned property to be included within commercially zoned property along Route 22. These large pieces of property will have a long term impact to the community, including growth of the police and fire department services and the consequences of what that will mean to the community and taxpayers.

The CPRM along with many of the citizens which have sent "letters to the editor" to the local newspapers have often been openly accused of not understanding the GBOD or have made untrue statements about the GBOD by members of the Murrysville government. These comments have come from not only members of the Murrysville Council but from our Mayor as well. We have repeatedly asked to clarify of the accusations but have received almost no response at all.

The majority of us moved to Murrysville to live in a "residential and rural" community and not a retail commercial community and we intend to keep it that way.
