Perhaps the
single greatest reason I am running for Council is that the
Residents should guide the direction of Murrysville's future.
Council's role is to utilize their experience and skills to meet
the Resident's vision. Unfortunately, the majority of our
current Council members do not understood their responsibility.
Instead, they are ensuring that we end up with urban sprawl that
will turn Murrysville into a smaller version of Monroeville.
Further, they have squandered an opportunity to provide
Murrysville with an outstanding source of tax revenue by
approving a highly inappropriate development at the former
Buncher Property.
Continued claims by numerous residents of the ethical lapses and
conflicts of interest by several members of Council have also
eroded the faith placed in our current Council. These concerns
have not abated and can only be addressed by electing qualified
candidates. You have a chance on May 19th to have your voice
heard and your vision of Murrysville respected.
More than ever, it's critical that we change the direction of
Council and begin forging a different path than the one we are
on. If you believe that we need change in council, voting for me
during the May 19th primary will help redirect our current path.
Again, I look forward to hearing your opinions and comments.

I am running for a
seat on Murrysville Council and am excited at the prospect of
helping to steer the community towards a bright, verdant future.
Murrysville's future will hopefully include many of the
strengths that have historically made it a great community; such
as its rural heritage, active community, strong school system,
responsive government, and its pleasant, small-town atmosphere.
I plan to work towards preserving these unique and positive
characteristics.
Unfortunately, the actions of Council over the past few years
have concerned me, as they have concerned many within the
community. I feel these actions have disenfranchised many
citizens and have, at times, allowed the desires of developers
to override the concerns and best interests of local citizens as
well as the vision set forth in the
Comprehensive Plan.
I hope to offer the people of Murrysville a clear impartial
voice as a member of Council. Let's work together to keep
Murrysville a vibrant community; a great place to live, work,
play, and raise our children.

Throughout my lifetime I have
seen Murrysville grow, both as a
prosperous economic community,
as well as a place of residence
desired by those seeking a rural
refuge from the common suburban
community.
I
share the same hopes as many of
you; that Murrysville continues
to endear these equities and be
a viable well balanced community
reflective of its roots, and a
place where our children and
others' children will desire to
live.
By
electing me to Murrysville
Council I can assure you that
these same principals will drive
my decisions, and that my only
personal interest will be to see
that those things that have made
our community great are
preserved for future generations
to enjoy. I will endeavor to see
that Murrysville remains a
healthy, well balanced community
for generations to come.

KEARNS
Murrysville
COUNCIL |
|
As a
veteran of Murrysville Council, Joan
Kearns said she has the perspective
to understand the growth in the
community.
"The
town has to grow or it dies," Kearns
said.
Kearns, is seeking re-election after
winning a two-year term in 2007. As
someone who was on council when the
municipality approved its
comprehensive plan in 2002 and
business overlay ordinance last
year, she has a wider understanding
of growth in the community, she
said.
"I'm the only one left who went
through all of that."
Kearns said she was disappointed
officials rebuffed the hundreds of
residents who signed petitions
against the overlay ordinance.
"Those 840 people are electors," she
said.
To
maintain a quality community, Kearns
said, officials will have tough
decisions to make about taxes and
the budget over the next four years.
She said a tax increase could be
needed to keep up with the needs of
the town.
"We
can't run a first-class community on
a second class budget."
