The "Developer" Issue
CPRM Statement
One of the CPRM-PAC
campaign messages is "Vote Developers Off Council". This in no way,
shape, or form means that members of CPRM-PAC are against Developers or
Development within Murrysville. CPRM fully supports "Responsible
Development" within our community in accordance with
the vision set forth in the Comprehensive
Plan.
Developer
Representation Among Council Members
CPRM feels, as do many of
our citizens, that Council members should not have a
business or personal connection, either directly or indirectly, to
development. The likelihood that council members employed by developers,
or the developer will
benefit monetary or by other material means is great.
In fact in the Charter Code of Ethics - Conflict of Interest,
§ 3-58. Definitions, states the following:
Under Financial Interest: "Any
interest which shall yield, directly or indirectly, a monetary or other
material benefit to the official or employee or to any person employing
or retaining the services of the official or employee."
Under Personal Interest: "Any interest arising from blood
or marriage relationships or from close business association, whether or
not any financial interest is involved."
So why then is there a members of council who holds an officer
positions in a large development company, and another member of council
who is married to a developer? Why has no one challenged this? While
many citizens have come forth and spoken openly in council meetings and
have written letters in the local papers we have been helpless in this
fight until now.
